Sagunto city council approves LGBTIQ+ rights motion ahead of Pride Day 2026
At its ordinary session on 4 June, Sagunto City Council approved an institutional motion in support of LGBTIQ+ rights to mark the International Day of Pride 2026.
Sagunto's municipal council voted on 4 June to reaffirm its commitment to LGBTIQ+ rights, aligning with institutional events planned for International Pride Day 2026. The move comes as Spain has risen to the top of Europe's LGBTIQ+ rights rankings: in the Rainbow Map 2026 published by ILGA-Europe, Spain scored 89%, placing first in Europe for the first time and overtaking Malta and Iceland (Rainbow Map ILGA-Europe). At the national legislative level, the Ley Trans 4/2023 (Trans Rights Act), in force since March 2023, allows gender registration changes from age 16 without a medical report and sets fines of between €10,000 and €150,000 for conversion practices. The council motion reinforces Sagunto's formal position on LGBTIQ+ inclusion, as reported by elperiodic.com.
